A Green Finance Initiative for Sustainable Development in Muslim Communities Across Africa
The MicroGREEN Project is a flagship green finance and community empowerment initiative supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in partnership with an Islamic financial institution. The project is designed to strengthen economic resilience, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion within Muslim communities across Africa.
MicroGREEN provides Shariah-compliant financial grants to support environmentally responsible micro and small-scale initiatives that create livelihoods, protect natural resources, and contribute to inclusive economic growth.
By integrating Islamic finance principles with climate-smart development, MicroGREEN promotes ethical wealth creation while addressing Africa’s urgent environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Our Mission
The mission of the MicroGREEN Project is to:
Empower Muslim individuals and communities with ethical, Shariah-compliant financial support
Promote green and climate-resilient livelihoods
Reduce poverty and vulnerability through sustainable micro-enterprises
Encourage stewardship of the environment in line with Islamic values of amanah (trust) and khalifah (guardianship)

What MicroGREEN Offers

1. Shariah-Compliant Financial Grants
Interest-free and fully compliant with Islamic finance principles
No riba (interest), gharar (excessive uncertainty), or unethical activities
Structured to support productive and environmentally responsible use of funds
2. Support for Green Micro-Enterprises
Funding can be used to:
Start new environmentally friendly businesses
Expand existing green enterprises
Improve production efficiency using sustainable methods
3. Capacity Building and Guidance
Beneficiaries may receive:
