AfDB MicroGREEN Project – Program Timeline

The AfDB MicroGREEN Project is implemented through a structured, transparent, and phased timeline to ensure fairness, accountability, environmental impact, and effective grant utilization by MSMEs.

 Phase 1: Program Announcement & Call for Applications

Duration: 2–4 Weeks

Key Activities:

  • Official public announcement of the MicroGREEN Grant Program

  • Publication of eligibility criteria, guidelines, and funding focus areas

  • Opening of the online application portal

  • Stakeholder engagement, awareness campaigns, and information sessions

Outcome:
Eligible MSMEs are informed and invited to apply.


Phase 2: Application Submission Period

Duration: 4–6 Weeks

Key Activities:

  • Submission of completed online grant applications

  • Upload of required documents (business registration, sustainability plans, financial data, etc.)

  • Applicant support through helpdesk and coordinators

  • Automated acknowledgment of submissions

Outcome:
Complete and verifiable applications are received for evaluation.


Phase 3: Preliminary Screening & Eligibility Verification

Duration: 2–3 Weeks

Key Activities:

  • Administrative review of applications

  • Verification of eligibility criteria

  • Validation of documents and applicant identity

  • Disqualification of incomplete or non-compliant submissions

Outcome:
A shortlist of eligible and compliant applications.


Phase 4: Technical Evaluation & Due Diligence

Duration: 3–5 Weeks

Key Activities:

  • Technical assessment of business models and green impact

  • Environmental and social safeguards review

  • Financial and operational due diligence

  • Risk assessment and fraud prevention checks

Outcome:
Applications ranked based on merit, impact, and sustainability.


Phase 5: Approval & Grant Award Notification

Duration: 1–2 Weeks

Key Activities:

  • Final review and approval by the Grant Evaluation Committee

  • Issuance of conditional grant approval letters

  • Public or private notification of successful beneficiaries

  • Communication of next steps and compliance requirements

Outcome:
Successful applicants are officially awarded grants.


Phase 6: Grant Agreement Signing & Onboarding

Duration: 1–3 Weeks

Key Activities:

  • Execution of grant agreements

  • KYC and financial account verification

  • Beneficiary onboarding and orientation

  • Training on fund utilization, reporting, and compliance

Outcome:
Beneficiaries are contractually onboarded and ready for disbursement.


Phase 7: Grant Disbursement

Duration: 1–2 Weeks (Post-Onboarding)

Key Activities:

  • Verification of disbursement conditions

  • Release of funds in tranches or lump sum (as applicable)

  • Confirmation of receipt by beneficiaries

Outcome:
Funds are securely disbursed to approved beneficiaries.


Phase 8: Implementation & Fund Utilization

Duration: 6–18 Months

Key Activities:

  • Execution of approved business and green initiatives

  • Deployment of grant funds for approved purposes

  • Ongoing technical support and mentorship

  • Compliance with environmental and social safeguards

Outcome:
MSMEs implement projects that deliver measurable green and economic impact.


Phase 9: Monitoring, Reporting & Evaluation

Duration: Throughout Implementation Period

Key Activities:

  • Periodic progress and financial reporting

  • Site visits and virtual monitoring

  • Impact measurement (jobs created, emissions reduced, sustainability outcomes)

  • Performance reviews and corrective actions where needed

Outcome:
Transparent tracking of outcomes and responsible fund use.


Phase 10: Program Close-Out & Impact Reporting

Duration: 1–3 Months

Key Activities:

  • Final reporting by beneficiaries

  • Financial reconciliation and audits

  • Documentation of lessons learned and best practices

  • Publication of aggregated impact results

Outcome:
Program objectives are achieved, documented, and reported to stakeholders.

12–24 Months, depending on project size, sector, and implementation scope.
